A fictionist whose stories have already been recognized by the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature (1997, 2002, 2003), and NCCA Writer’s Prize (2005). He has published his first collection of short stories, At Nabulag ang Tagapagsalaysay which was included in NCCA’s Ubod New Authors Series, and his first novel, Ang Sandali ng mga Mata which won the 2006 National Book Award for Best Novel. He was a fellow of the 26th and 33rd U.P. Writer’s Workshop in Baguio (1996) and Los Baños (1998), and the 1st Heights Annual Writer’s Workshop (1996). He is also a filmmaker whose short film, Rolyo, won the best short film in Cinemalaya and Urian Awards 2007, and competed as the Philippine entry to the Paris Film Festival 2008. He co-directed the feature film Huling Pasada, which won for Best Cinematography in Cinemalaya 2008. He is currently working on his first solo feature length film for Cinemalaya 2009, Ang Panggagahasa kay Fe, and still trying to finish his doctoral degree in Philippine Studies at the University of the Philippines.
